Book by Terrence McNally Music by Stephen Flaherty Lyrics by Lynn Ahrens Based on the novel by E.L. Doctorow Based on E.L. Doctorowís distinguished novel, Ragtime The Musical paints a powerful portrait of life in turn of the century America, intertwining three distinct stories that illustrate the timeless contradictions of wealth & poverty, freedom & prejudice, hope & despair, and love & hate. Stephen Flaherty's score is as diverse as the Melting Pot of America it seeks to recreate. It draws upon traditional Jewish folk sounds to color the haunting music of the immigrants, Vaudevilleís outrageous style to capture the spectacle of Evelyn Nesbit, and Joplin and Jazz to invoke the enlivened spirit of Harlem. With a book by Terrence McNally, this 1998 Tony award winning show for best score, book, and orchestrations, features such show stopping songs as ìGetting Ready Rag,î ìYour Daddyís Son,î ìWheels of a Dream,î ìTill We Reach That Day,î ìBack To Before,î and ìMake Them Hear You.î This momentous musical is sure to inspire actors and audiences alike!
